Tajikistan is a country dominated by the Alay and Pamir Mountains.  It is the smallest country in Central Asia, and more than 50 % of the country is at least 3000 meters above sea level. The Pamir Highway snakes through the country at dizzying heights, challenging even the most skilled of automobilists.

And for some reason, the team has decided to drive through it. Here the group will encounter one of its greatest challenges.  Maintaining speeds while climbing mountains in the 26hp cars will not be easy.  After coaxing the cars to nearly 4,700 meters the group will pass through the Ak-Baital Pass, have a quick stop at Lake Kara-Kul and head for the border of Krygystan and the city of Osh.

If the group can work the cars up the steep inclines, keep them running at high altitudes and not slide off the roads due to lack of pavement, they only have to worry about the altitude sickness. John Drury felt it necessary to point out that, upon telling the Tajik Consul of their plans to drive through his country, he responded with, “Maybe this is not such a good idea.”

Who thought driving the Pamir Hwy was a good idea?
